Goodluck Jonathan has announced a cash reward of two million Naira each members
of the Golden Eaglets that won the Under Seventeen championship.

Receiving the
Eaglets in Abuja Sunday night President Jonathan said their victory was an
indication that Nigeria was on the path of recovery in international
sports.
Members of
the coaching crew were given three million naira each by the president who
described the victory of the Eagles as a pride to the nation and the continent.
The Sports
Minister Bolaji Abdullahi said the “The Golden Eaglets is a project in
the making. The grace beauty and swagger is Nigerian. Beyond what we have seen
is a success in grooming good athletes and good Nigerians.
They are not
excellent athletes but excellent human beings. Winning the World Cup is not the
end. It is the beginning” he said.
President
Jonathan said” with dedication resilience and statesmanship they have
moved from being second best to the best. This victory brought to mind the
championship Nigeria has won. Our senior national team defeated the South
African team in the Nations cup. This is a golden era in Nigeria football. It
is not a Surprise because I told the nation after the Olympics that our
administration will provide the support to ensure that our men and women win
international support. I congratulate the young team over their deserve
victory.
You have set
two records. Four times winner and twenty seven goals I commend the
team for tactical and exciting football. You won fair and squarely. This
victory is for the whole Africa. To the crew thank you for a job well done. The
enduring test lies in the success of the team at the highest level. The
celebration will be short lived their talent must be developed.
